Q&As:

What is a crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are commonly used to protect weakened teeth, cover large fillings, restore fractured or severely worn teeth, and improve the overall aesthetics of a tooth.

How does it work?

You will be administered local anesthetic to numb the area, The dentist then prepares the tooth to accommodate the crown. This involves removing any decayed or damaged portions of the tooth and shaping it to allow for the proper fit of the crown. You will have a 3D scan taken and this will be sent to a lab for your crown to be made. Whilst your crown is being made you will have a temporary crown. When your crown is back from our lab we remove the temporary and fit your permanent crown.

Why do I need a crown?

You may need a crown if a filling is no longer feasible, you have had a root canal treatment or you have a cracked tooth.

What material is used for a crown?

They can be made from various materials, including porcelain, metal alloys, or a combination of both, and are custom-designed to match the colour and shape of the natural teeth. Dental crowns are cemented into place, encasing the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.
