Porcelain veneers and Whitening

Case Study

This patient was unhappy with their worn teeth. (See ‘before picture’.) They also wanted whiter teeth.

They wanted to know what their new teeth would look like before they started the process which we were able to do.

This means any small adjustments can be made before the permanent veneers are made to achieve the best outcome and minimize the need for any adjustments after.

How do you know if veneers are the right option for you?

As with any dental treatment every case needs to be assessed carefully to know which is the best treatment type. Veneers are a really good option for some people but may not achieve a good result in other cases (severely crowded teeth, for example). An initial ‘cosmetic consultation’ is the best place to start to discuss the options.

WHAT ARE THE VENEERS MADE FROM?

These veneers are made from porcelain but veneers can also be made from other material such as composite. There are pros and cons to each material which can be discussed on a case by case.

HOW CAN YOU SEE WHAT VENEERS WOULD LOOK LIKE BEFORE WE START?

Part of the planning process is to show you what the end result would be like before the treatment starts. A wax mock up is made on a model of your teeth to make sure that you are 100% happy with the proposed new teeth before we start the treatment.

WOULD COMPOSITE WORK IN THIS CASE?

Yes composite would have been an option too but the patient preferred porcelain because its long lasting and keeps very polished for a long time.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers usually look their best for around 10-15 years. In some cases they can last much longer in the right case. Dental restorations need to kept clean, be checked regularly and be cleaned with the dental hygienist.

WHAT DO TEMPORARY VENEERS LOOK LIKE?

There is a picture of the temporary veneers in this case - they are made the same shape as the ‘wax preview’ of the teeth. They will look much like the permanent teeth to help get used to the new smile and give feedback before the permanent teeth are made?

WHAT OTHER TREATMENT WAS DONE?

The other teeth were whitened to allow the new veneers to be made to match the new whiter shade
