What is sedation?
Sedation refers to the use of medication to induce a state of relaxation, calmness, or sleepiness in a person. It is commonly used in various medical and dental procedures to help patients remain comfortable and reduce anxiety or discomfort whilst treatment is being carried out.
Can both adults and children have sedation?
Sedation is suitable for adults and children aged 6+ and must weight a minimum of 20kg.
What happens at my appointment?
You will be met by your dentist, dental nurse and a sedationist. The sedationist will monitor your blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels.
You will be made to feel comfortable at our practice, you will be talked through the process
Undergo sedation and have treatment carried out, you will recover with the sedationist in a private area and given post-op instructions.
How much does it cost?
Dental Sedation costs £595 per hour for adults.
For children, it is from £750 for 2 hours (this includes the sedation nurse fee).
The treatment is then charged separately.

Am I suitable for sedation?
Generally, if you are have no major medical conditions and a healthy BMI then you should be suitable for sedation however patients with significant or uncontrolled conditions e.g. severe heart disease, morbid obesity, need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis
Do I need to bring somebody with me?
It is a legal requirement that you bring a responsible adult with you if you are having sedation, and they should accompany you for 12 hours post treatment.
Can I eat and drink before my sedation?
It is very important that you do not eat or drink anything for 4 hours prior to your appointment (even water)
What should I do after my sedation?
It is advised that the patient should not drive, operate heavy machinery, drink alcohol or sign any paperwork for 24 hours after sedation. Upon arriving home you can drink a small amount of water or squash, if you tolerate this then you can progress on to bland foods.
